Daniel Girard, a Menard Vidal Inc. (MVI) employee, is the inventor of the principle of the HOG-TIE in 2004. Daniel Girard is heavy industry TIG welder having more than 20 years experience on the field. In 2005, MVI in partnership with Daniel Girard, decided to patent the invention. Carl Ménard, P.Eng. and president of MVI, designed the HOG-TIE as show below.

The HOG-TIE is a tool for universal alignment of pipes and tubes. The HOG-TIE use a high tensile strap having 1 or 3/4 inch wide by 3/64 inch thick that is inserted in the welding gap. The strap is clamp between the tensioning puller (part with hex nut) and a removable clamping device. Once the tubes are align, the welder tackweld the tubes and then remove the HOG-TIE and complete the weld of the tubes.

HOG-TIE is under patent 2,491,878.
